The Boys Part 1
Still buzzing from this afternoons work.

So much captured seamlessly in such short time, film and stills.

Photographing men is where I began my career, here I refresh with a surprisingly athletic group of boys herded together and just expressing themselves, spirits shining, caught in the moment, authentic, honest, un-staged and fun!

I wanted to flow through a spontaneous sequence events, my method involves subtle planning, allowing things to seemingly happen organically.

Throw 3 strangers (literally) out of a vintage truck, find a river in the dust in a far away place and let general mischief and havoc prevail.

The first part of the afternoon looked like this….

Soon we were all cracking up and behaving like kids, one guy couldn't actually swim,  so interesting to observe those visceral emotions, actual courage.

(I was a life guard growing up so all in safe hands!)

In the spirit of "just do it", I caught amazing moments in single takes with my camera handling speed, (loving my mirrorless Z9), it was a scorcher of the day well into the mid 30's, the warm river was heaven sent.

Collaborating with DOP Gerrit Olivier, renewing our long time creative partnership, it was shoot and film non stop till the light goes, (do remember to drink water at least once in those few hours)

The intimate connection we have as a unit gave us two on one time with subjects, at times assisting each other, genuine intimacy, so liberating, it meant we could align our film/stills language in perfect symbiosis, capturing the same moments and vibing off each others ideas, all under my direction.

Additional Editing by Matthew Goodeve helped create the story.

Special mention to a planning session with Byron, Head of Mens division, @boysofboss Cape Town, crafting a perfect group of strangers who, with his insight, (assumed correctly in hindsight), would gel perfectly.

Proof is in the pudding.
